THIS IS HOW YOU CAN KEEP CYCLING EVEN IN BAD WEATHER

WINTERWISE YOUR BIKE

If you want to continue cycling during bad weather, it is important to make sure your bike is ready for it.

Mudguards

Fortunately, a good tour or city bike already comes with good mudguards. But do you prefer to take the mountain, road or gravel bike? Then it is a good idea to mount mudguards on these in winter. These stop splashing water for the most part, so you arrive at your destination a lot less wet and dirty. They will keep your clothes drier and you won't be bothered by splashing mud in your face.

Did you know that Acid mudguards fit most CUBE bikes? Only the Agree, Attain and Litening are excepted.

Lighting

Even if you cycle during the day, we recommend cycling with good lighting even in bad weather. Rain or fog will always make you less visible, but a good light is the solution for this. Lights come in different strengths. The greater the number of lumens, the brighter the lamp can shine. For example, a lamp with a lot of lumens is perfect for rides through the polder, as it gives the following light to be able to see well yourself.

Good tyres

Your tyres are the only contact between you and the road. And in wet weather, the road surface, and especially manhole covers, road markings and cobblestones, can be extra slippery! Before heading out in bad weather, double-check what condition your tyres are in. If they are worn out, it is best to fit a set of new tyres. And do you ride a road bike with slick tyres? A tyre with a bit more tread will offer more grip in the wet, a good option to consider!

Maintenance

Have you just cycled in the rain? Then give your bike some more love when you get home. Clean your chain with degreaser and use a brush to scrub the dirt off your cassette. Afterwards, don't forget to re-oil your chain! Use the Juice Lubes Scrub 'n Buff pack for this, so you have everything in one go.

GOOD CLOTHING: LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERS!

Protect yourself from the cold and wet with the right cycling clothes. The trick is: layers, layers, layers. Make sure you have a good base with thermal trousers and a shirt. These will keep you extra warm and ensure that sweat is drained well, so you are less likely to cool down.

Good trousers

The time for shorts and shirts will come again, now it is important to pull those warm and long cycling clothes out of the closet. Make sure you have padded cycling shorts that can also withstand a splash of water. THE CUBE Blackline Bib Tights is the ideal training partner when it's colder. Is it really going to rain? Then you can pull a good pair of rain trousers over this, such as the CUBE Blackline Rain Pants.

Warm jersey and jacket

Also make sure your upper body is well wrapped up. A long-sleeved jersey should therefore not be missing. As a third layer, you can use a padded cycling jacket, windbreaker or rain jacket. These will keep the wind and rain at bay, keeping you warm and dry.

Gloves and overshoes

Don't forget your hands and feet. With a pair of good winter gloves, frozen fingers are a thing of the past and you will always have good control over your bike! Do your shoes get wet? Then use these handy neoprene overshoes.

Don't forget your buff or hat!

To protect your head from water and wind, a helmet cap is a good option. Use it under your helmet. And don't forget a good buff around your neck either. It prevents wind from entering your jacket through your neck, but you can also pull it up to your chin, mouth or even nose! You can use a buff in various ways, including under your helmet. A real must-have.
